    The Mission:

    Name: Scout the Border
    Rank: C-Rank
    Participants: Moon Village, Sun Village
    Type: Group Mission
    Reward: 25 EXP, 10 Ryo
    Location: Within a village's region
Details: Just like patrolling the village is important, it is also important to make sure the nations borders are secure. Your task is to spend time roaming the regions borders and making sure nothing looks out of place. This includes roaming the main road, outing bandit camps or arresting thieves. While it can be boring at times, you never know what is going to pop up out in the wild.
Requirements: Each person must make at least two posts, totaling to 800 WC.

Ryojin had received the note slipped under his door early in the morning. He rubbed at his sandy eyes and stretched as he heard the message enter his current abode. He lifted it up only to find that today he would be scouting with two sun shinobi. The rumors had been his friends in wolf masks had made their way to the sun village to and in truth, other than helping beast with the disappearing children, that's why he was here. He was here to see if the small bandit group was becoming more of a problem. He was here to see if they had something to do with the goings of the world. He knew all too well that his brother was far too simple to be any more than a screw in a running machine, but that didn't mean he couldn't be pushed by an outside source to be more.

Ryojin slipped on his standard attire and extended and retracted his bow a few times to make sure no sand was locking up the mechanism. He tied his headband actually around his forehead for once in order to keep sweat out of his eyes. He didn't wrap his arms and calves as he usually did opting for staying cooler instead. He pulled his light coat on, the dragon flapping about as he tied it loosely around him.

He left his current stay as the sun just broke the horizon and made his way from the village out to the area known as the infinite canyons. Rumor had it three total bandit camps had been set up in the area and Ryojin, along with two others, were to snuff these camps out before they became a real problem. The task was simple as always, but he couldn't help but wonder if this time things would be a little more complicated. He had gotten stronger, but his father wasn't here to save him if he ran into Kaijin this time. A soft sight escaped his lips.

Kannagi Irezumi had brushed Cirilla's coat, cleaned her hooves, fed and watered her well, and gave her plenty of attention over the last week. The gray mottled mare was in high spirits when the kunoichi had come to her at dawn. The temperature was already rising even though the sun was a mere speck of red in the sky and it was going to be the best time for traveling out to the canyons today. Once in the canyons, the tall rocky arcs and towering structures would apply enough shade to make the air at least breathable. There was a strong wind today as Kannagi rode Cirilla out to the canyons in the distance. She hoped she would meet the other shinobi at a proper time, without making them wait too much. The wind gave her something to think about as she rode out there; the risk of a sand storm and such dry heat made Kannagi recall the one time she had experienced a fire tornado several years ago. It wasn't a pretty situation.

The blue haired kunoichi wore a long flowing mauve skirt with black shorts underneath and a neck-high sleeveless black top. Her feet embraced fitted wooden sandals, the perfect sort for traveling across the desert. Kannagi secured her pouch, medical bag and senbon launcher to her person prior to taking the ride, the bag bouncing gently on her side as she moved with her horse across the land. When she finally arrived, the woman slowed, sitting atop of Cirilla and looking down on the man waiting here. She was already tall for a woman, but it her look wasn't that of condescension but appraisal. "Tōshō Ryojin? I am Kannagi of Nikkousato. I am told you have the details of our mission today."

"Hmmm?" Ryojin turned his head to pear at the woman approaching him. He gave her a toothy grin and extended out his hand. "It's nice to meet you! Call me Ryo if you'd like. We're going to be outing three bandit camps in the area today! If you've gotten here first, it may be you and you alone to be on this mission with me. I make only one request. If we happen to run into men in wolf masks... Just let me go forward okay? It may get messy." With that, he had pulled out a crudely drawn map of the canyons and displayed it to her. It had an X where they stood.

Three red circles were notable with lines to the x indicating distance to each camp. Roughly thirty meters between them and each camp. It wouldn't be too hard to close that kind of distance as the two of them continued going forward. From where they stood it wouldn't take but a little bit to get to the first camp on the left. All they had to do was stay far enough away to stay under the cover of the shifting sands. "If needed. No mercy. Don't be shy now."

Kannagi nodded her head at the introduction, shaking her blue bangs from her pale face. The camps weren't really in ideal places for the bandits safety or security which had her puzzled. Either these were some stupid bandits, which she couldn't exclude as a possibility, or they had some sort of defensive structures or guards and didn't worry about people stumbling upon them. The map showcased the locations well and she appreciated the work that went into it. "Well done Ryo, and well met. About these people in wolf masks... should I know of them? I would like to be prepared and I can assure you that I excel in combat as good as any man." It was her usual need to profess her ability to each new shinobi she met in case Kannagi needed to prove herself and shut down any stereotypes before hand.

Kannagi would hear out his answer and then move with him to the first camp location. She left Cirilla behind where the 'x' upon the map was so that her deer mare would be left out of any fighting. When they were close enough to see the camp, there weren't many places to truly hide them and the kunoichi needed them to be able to get closer. "I'll give us some cover," she proclaimed before lifting her hands upward. Gusts of wind drew up the sands and filled the camp with a sandy cloud. There were cries of surprise as the bandits there shouted and tried to get into their tents for cover, some of them even calling out warnings that it could turn into a dust storm. Kannagi gestured to Ryo and whispered, "Shall we compete on who can disable the most bandits here? I believe I will win such a bet, but it could bring some enjoyment to this common mission." She had rooted out camps before, she had faced bandits before, but she hadn't often done it with another shinobi around. The idea of a little competition would help her to stay alert and active.

"I apologize and thoroughly assure you I have no doubt in your present ability. The wolf masks are personal. My brother is one of them you see. We have a bit of a running match going on and we're by technicality tied two to two in wins." Ryojin gave a toothy grin as he said this. Truth be told, his brother excelled in multi-target combat. It would be inconvenient even in a group of two to have to fight him in a wide open area. Ryojin knew this too well thanks to the last time he had his ass handed to him.

As the sand rose and gave them cover, Ryojin smirked. "A game it is!" He at this point, picked up his pace onward quickly closing the gap between him and one of the tents. Upon reaching the tent, he vaulted himself over top and brought his bo down on the center connecting piece with a loud clang. In moments, the tent collapsed on the two inside. From here, Ryojin had pulled forth two kunai made of ice in his left hand, shifting his hold on the bo to his right one. He threw both of these kunai with the utmost precision. One colliding into the diaphragm of the man on the left, one headed straight into the head of the man on the right.

He had grown since having to kill the first time. He had become accustomed to it, though he would never forget his kill count, or the way he took each individual's life. This was his way of penance.

Kannagi was surprised to hear about these people in wolf masks being related to him. If he wanted to be left alone to fight his brother as part of an endless competition, then she wouldn't interfere. It wasn't part of the mission at any rate and had no reason to complain as long as it did not impact their mission. If anything, it made her curious. The idea of fighting with family at random the way he did made her think of her own family. It was possible that some day she might have to face them in a similar way, but for Kannagi she could not consider such a nightmare as a valid concern in the present day. It seemed in poor taste to root out the bandits and keep track of them like a game, but Kannagi had never killed before and wasn't about to now. The had assumed that they would be arresting them of course, restraining them and sending word to other shinobi for prison collections. She knew killing was part of her job, but if she didn't have to then she saw no point in going through with it. Kannagi didn't like to be the one to decide who lived or did not live.

She scanned the camp with her eyes and transformed her body into a two dimensional paper version of her own self. Standing sideways, she could be nearly invisible to any who looked her way. The kunoichi made her way around some of the tents and listened in carefully, counting the total number of people she could see. Her count gave her six people, though her interest in collecting intel first slowed her down. She slipped herself underneath the tent flap and saw three bodies resting inside. Sleeping at this time of day was only normal if you had been out late the night before, or were planning to be out late in the coming evening. She relaxed her paper jutsu and drew up her arm, shooting senbon from her projector at the men while they slept. They pinned the men down by their arms but did not wake them. She cleared her throat then, figuring it was only fair to take them out while they were awake if Ryo was facing conscious bandits as well.

She hurled herself at the one on the far left as he woke up and drove her elbow into his skull hard enough to send him back to dreamland. The other two woke up with groans then, confused, and then angry as they realized they couldn't move their arms around. "No sense in trying. I have already captured you," She chuckled to them. "Let me help with those needles though." She stepped towards the other two and grabbed the two men by their necks, jerking them upright and tearing their sleeves in the process. As she grabbed their necks, she slammed the men's heads into each other, allowing the force and bluntness of their own foreheads to conk them out. She wasn't cheating by being sneaky, she thought. At least she had woken the three up first. Ryo wouldn't see that as unfair now, would he?

Ryojin quickly made his way to the last tent. As he opened the flap, he tilted his head back to avoid an incoming swipe from a chain scythe. The weapon in itself was quite interesting. Ryojin took note of it's craftsman ship, and the small weight at it's opposite end that was sent flying toward him next. He blocked the weight with his metal bo and it set of a resounding clang. He then used his bo to launch himself at his opponent and spun swiftly and tightly to unleash a quick soft kick toward the man's head. He managed to block Ryojin, but as Ryojin shifted back out of range, the man suddenly squinted his eyes. Ryojin had shifted in total five meters from the man in one swift motion and was now out of his field of vision. "S-Snow?!" The man rubbed at his eyes and cursed to himself. Ryojin had successfully caught him in a genjutsu. At this point, it was easy to toss two shuriken toward the man, one from each side, and they both found their way to his neck. He coughed up blood and fell to his knees weakly before being taken to the other side.

"Well what a shame. Bandits don't seem to have any taste for genjutsu." He let out a soft sigh. They weren't able to fend it off as well as other shinobi. No real training against it meant no real knowledge about it. A gentle shift in his position led to him beginning the trek toward the next camp without hesitation. "Careful or I'll leave you in the dust Kannagi~!"

By her count, she had three bandits finished. When Kannagi stepped out of the tent and saw Ryo likewise emerging from one nearby, it was a safe assumption that this camp had been handled. It had gone smoothly without injury and to their advantage, Kannagi was able to see just how fast shinobi could work when they really wanted to. The blue haired kunoichi dashed after Ryo and kept pace by his side with some effort. "Leave me in the dust? That wouldn't be very chivalrous.~" It amused her because typically chivalry annoyed her. The joke was a lot funnier for her because she didn't much like people treating her with special feats because she was a woman and here she was throwing the word about on her on. She chuckled, finding herself quite humorous.

At the next bandit camp, there were no tents. It looked small and half packed up already, as if the people there were in the middle of a transition. In the shadow of several large rock pillars, the camp was settled in a place which was cool but hardly defended. Kannagi thought it was a good idea that Ryo and herself had come today because this was obviously a temporary camp and not a permanent one. Kannagi lifted up her hands and made seals, creating for herself large and dramatic wings made of paper. She floated into the sky like a bird, hovering 10m above. "I'll show you how it's done," Kannagi called down to Ryo, giving him a wink. From above, Kannagi could see the people moving in the camp: just four people and a small cart, covered up by a tarp. She unleashed from her hands each a torrent of paper origami cranes and they swirled down and drove the people into a frenzy. She tore through the camp, overturning the cart, and overturning three of the four occupants there. They lay there groaning on their backs, by all appearances, defeated and ready for arrest or capture.

Ryojin observed as Kannagi dispatched enemies just as quickly if not even more so than he could. It was watching this that Ryojin took the lead onto the third camp. He rushed up to the camp forming hand signs and after a moment, he began to expel a massive amount of water from his mouth. He had utilized collision wave in order to sweep away this entire camp including three bandits inside. It appeared as thought Ryojin was going to come up short, but from a ways a way, a man approached the camp. When he saw the shinobi he began to run, but Ryojin had already formed ice kunai in his hands once more and he sent them flying toward the man. This would ideally tie the two of them and bring this mission to a nice neat little wrap.

"Kannagi! You're a splendid shinobi! I hope we get to work together soon in the future! It has been an honor cleaning up these bandits with you and I really can't wait until the next time." With that, Ryojin smiled and held out his hand. It had been interesting to see paper jutsu being used effectively. They could definitely be very effective.

By the time Kannagi had caught up with Ryojin, he had finished the mission and tied them both in numbers. She had to admit that she hadn't actually thought that he could tie her or win in her little competition. Kannagi offered him a smile, taking his hand and bowing as she shook it. "A pleasure working with you, Ryo. With our efficiency any manner of mission would become safer and uncomplicated with you by my side." The kunoichi straightened and looked around at his accomplishments in the third bandit camp. His utilization of ice was unusual from the shinobi she had worked with thus far and being able to see some of his jutsu made her only more curious about how it functioned. The mission was a success and she was hopeful to do it with him again soon.
