Aside from the family, there was six other people involved; five of them were hired guards that were to accompany the group of them to make sure that the bandits couldn't outnumber Sojiro. They were well-armed enough, wearing leather armor and having a blade; they looked like they all came from the same outfit. That was both a good and a bad thing, it meant that their teamwork would be impeccable but also if they were working against the family... They were outnumbered. The last escort mission that Sojiro had run into was a greedy uncle that had tried to sell his own nephew, drugging both Sojiro and the client and taking them to some facility. Sojiro had escaped with the boy, finished the delivery, and informed the family of the misdeeds that had happened. Thankfully, the parents had been shocked by the news and since then, from what he heard, they had hired and started to train their own guard for their boy. That was the smartest idea, well... Sort of. The smartest idea would have been to train the boy so that he could protect himself from the enemies, instead of relying on others, but that really wasn't any of his business. They had tried to learn from their mistakes and that was more than enough for him to be content, especially since he wasn't personally or emotionally involved. But, because of that encounter, Sojiro was much more aware of the people that he traveled with when taking on these types of missions. So, despite the father telling him that these men could be trusted and they were his comrades, Sojiro would only put on a front. He wasn't going to trust these people to ruin his mission.
And there was one last person, an older man who seemed to be the butler of the family. This man, Sojiro deemed, the only person that was safe to not watch. It wasn't because the old man was weak and frail, although he was both things, but the way that he looked at the family when they talk. If Sojiro had learned anything from spending time with others, it was that faking sincere emotions was hard, especially when you thought no one was looking. Those were the moments when the people were the weakest and their most exposed. And in those moments the butler had shown his true colors, almost like a doting grandfather to the group he was taking care of. So, when Sojiro heard that the old man was going to be the person in charge of driving the carriage, that had caused him some relief. The other men would sit on the carriage or ride next to horses. One of the men had tried to sit inside of the carriage but Sojiro had denied him that pleasure, ensuring that he had the inside of the carriage covered from his position. The man wasn't stupid and new better than to tangle with Sojiro, so there wasn't really much of an argument when he demanded it of them. With a soft breath, the group would finally begin to start traveling towards the Moon Village and things, at first, seemed like they may just go fine.
During one of the many nights that Sojiro was watching over the family, they had set up camp in a small clearing not far from the roads. The men that were traveling with them had taken to scouting the border, although Sojiro didn't entirely trust them, so he made sure to stay alert. He kept track of all the men with his nose, as well as anything else that may approach, so he was still on guard regardless of what he was doing. That was when someone approached him, although it wasn't the person that he was expecting, instead seeing the daughter from earlier starting to approaching him. Sojiro was working on something within his books, medicine and trying to come up with more types of experiments to work on people. The girl would get closer, trying to sit near him and see what he was doing, though the man wasn't shy. It was clear what the girl's intentions were, seeing that she was a shy and sheltered person and there weren't many people more exotic looking than Sojiro in terms of clothing and appearance. Her curiosity was adorable but Sojiro was on a mission. So, despite the looks and gestures she would try to make, the man would just ignore her and return to the work that he had. Despite not trusting the other people on this mission, it seemed that they would do their job well enough throughout the night and in the morning, they would continue on their way.
It wouldn't take them more than another day to finally reach the Moon Village, with things having gone extremely well. Besides a few random animals here and there, there hadn't really been any problems while traveling across the land. Hell, the guards that were protecting the family didn't even try to kill them! It was astounding, honestly. But, as he parted ways with the family, he wouldn't really give any of them a second thought as he walked away. The mission was complete and he could move on with his life.
