    Snow man building contest!

    It is winter time in July! We will be having a mid season mini event that anyone can participate in regardless of rank, village or prior participation in any previous event. Since our Bijuu event is currently taking place, and it is the ice bijuu, we thought it would be nice to do a small event for everyone to enjoy.

    This event will be completely random, and will simply take your participation to have a chance at winning. The contest is simple, reply to this topic with a single post about your character building a snowman. You can be as funny or as serious as you would like, you simply need to write yourself building a snowman. However, the winner will not be determined by what is written in the post, but by a random means. In order to win the contest, you must make one post detailing how your character participates. Before the contest starts a random number between 5 and 1500 has been picked. Your post must fall anywhere between 5 words and 1500 words, with whoever's post coming closest to the randomly selected number being the winner. So this event is considered random, all you need to do is write a post, and if it comes the closest to our selected number, you win the prize! So writing skill, detail and fluff does not matter, so enjoy the post, make it as silly, goofy or serious as you want to.

    Come July 30th the number will be revealed along with whoever managed to get the closest, higher, or lower! If you wish to participate you can reply with your entry post below, detailing how you do it. If you own more than one character, you may enter them all.

    First Prize:
    -Ice Bombs
    -100 Ryo
    -25 Exp

    All Participants:
    -25 Ryo
    -15 EXP

    There was a knock on her door. One of the younger siblings of the clan. Shizuka kept silent and soon there would be another knock, harder this time.

    "Shizu-tan, want to build a snowman?"

    A snowman? When had she last built a snowman, probably as a child? Shizuka along with other Yurei members had made one from the snow that been collecting in the courtyard. Now she was so busy with missions and odd jobs for the village... She was never seen around the Yurei compounds much. She came home to eat and sleep but beyond her doors, she was as if she was gone.

    "Shizu-tan, It could be something else?"

    Shizuka would let it go. She opened the door to her room a cold breeze instantly hitting her pajamas. Shizuka shrugged, the cold never bothered her anyway. In fact, she preferred it. Children and adults alike were already building snowmen, some fat some tall, some just plain ugly and more of a snow blob.

    "It looks like we only have each other Shizu-tan!"

    The younger girl had a slight lisp, unable to pronounce words beyond a few syllables. It was nothing to worry about, soon she'd grow up and her teeth would fill in the blanks. Together they'd build something magnificent. Instead of a snowman, they'd build a snow dragon. It's a great body, snaking through the pillars and onto the roof. It's tail having smashed abandon snowmen.

    Its head was gigantic. The eyes were bitten derpy but sticks were used to build up its great horns and whiskers. Shizuka would name her derpy looking dragon with icy scales, Ryojin. However she would never tell anyone, she would never show it. She whispered it to a younger girl but she was a good girl and she would conceal the name.

    Snow man building contest! (Complete) Empty Re: Snow man building contest! (Complete)

    Post by Kannagi on Sun Jul 12, 2020 6:56 pm

    Kannagi Irezumi relaxed in her studio apartment, holding up a flyer for the Snowman Building Contest. It wrinkled around the edges of her fingers and she smiled crookedly at it. The idea of a Snowman Building Contest at this time seemed not only bizarre but impossible. Wasn't this the peak of heat for the desert? And yet, when she looked outside she was reminded that if she could fight an ice bijuu in summer, why not create a single snow person? Kannagi had made her way out of her studio apartment, locking the door behind her. She didn't have much to steal but there was a consistency in the way the kunoichi lived her day to day. Kannagi left the tea shop through its back entrance, avoiding the patrons but missing the delicious scent of tea. The woman went outside of the village proper in order to find someone else building a snowman, and hopefully a place where there was snow. Sure enough, she came to a snowy area the size of a large field. It made no sense, none whatsoever. She could assume some person's jutsu was responsible for this but as other civilians worked to build up snow people, Kannagi could only shrug. What use was it to try and puzzle and answer through all of this? She figured she could try her hand at building a snow person and earn a little ryo as a prize if everyone liked her's.

    Kannagi had always been the creative and intelligent sort, but rather the kind of person who might read and write poetry and not the kind who would form clay pots and decorative paintings. She bent over and picked up a ball of snow and packed it between her hands, thinking out a plan before shivering and tossing the ball aside. She slid out a pair of gloves from her pocket and then tapped her chin, constructively. "First a place to feel warmer, then a snow person." The blue haired woman got down to her hands and knees and started using a kunai with one hand to draw and dig out dense blocks of snow. She had to pack them close with her hands, rotating blocks so that they were able to stack in an alternate order and spread their weight around. She first build a little wall, and then it grew and grew into a large three meter circle around her. Deciding that it was still too small for someone of her own stature to work and prosper in, Kannagi opened the circle back up and doubled its size to six meters. It would take another two hours but soon half of an igloo like hut was created around her.

    It had already helped to block out some of the chilly air around the strange and icy area, but it would look ridiculous if she had left it as it was. The blue eyed female finished creating the top of the igloo with a bit more time, balancing each piece the way she imagined a house might be built from her time spent with the Irezumi family and all of her books. Subsequently, the kunoichi crawled out of the only space she had left for herself, a tunnel leading back into the open. Outside of her igloo stood a young pack of boys holding snowballs. Kannagi greeted them, "Well hello. Are you also preparing a snow person for the contest?" The oldest boy who looked around twelve years of age sneered at her and the other two boys with him mimicked his actions with sneers of their own. "This isn't a snowman!"

    "Of course, not," Kannagi explained, "First I had to build a home and a place to-" The eldest boy laughed. "Of course! A girl would make a home first. Do you know anything about making anything!?" Kannagi's jaw dropped. Had they just insulted her for being a girl? The home she had built was practical, and practically livable, and they mocked her creation in an attempt to point out the stereotype that women liked to stay home or something. It was worse than anything she had heard since starting out in the Sun Village. She clenched her fingers and offered a dark smile, "Maybe you kids should just leave. That sort of rudeness can get you into trouble." Her advice was ignored and the three boys pelted her little fort with snow balls. She cried out, "No! Stop! You can't just do that!" The boys didn't listen. They didn't listen!

    Kannagi frowned and got to her feet, standing high over the children. "Better run," She whispered with a gleam in her eyes. They looked up at her in confusion for a moment before reaching to grab more snow in their fists. The woman moved without mercy. She grabbed the oldest looking boy and pushed him into the ground. She reached for the other two, catching a snowball on her right cheek before her hands drew the children together. Their heads knocked against one another and they squealed. "Okay! We're sorry!" Kannagi restrained herself for a second and took a deep breath. She let them go and breathed, "Like I said. Better run." The two boys burst into speed and dashed as far away from her as they could go; she could tell by their frantic movements that at least she had scared them for her revenge. She stretched her shoulders back and looked around for the eldest boy, the one who had acted as the leader.

    The kunoichi spotted him climbing into her little igloo and she shook her head side to side. "Bad idea, little one." She spun in a circle as the boy vanished inside and used a roundhouse kick on the side of her construct. The igloo collapsed on the child, burying him complete beneath the snow. Of course, she could leave him there, but Kannagi had a better idea. She patted down the sides to firm up the ground and then dug out a hole on the top of the snow pile. She found the pre-teen gasping in fear and grabbed him up by his collar until his head was completely free and sticking out of the top of the snow. Then she stopped. "Wait, what are you doing?" He demanded, "Help me!"

    Kannagi shook her head again and patted the snow firmly around him. "Not yet," She said, and then she spent the next ten minutes listening to the kid whimper and beg at her. She was resolute in her decision the blue eyed woman maneuvered the snow around quickly, transforming the pile into a large snow person's body with a little boy for a real snow person's head. She stuck a few twigs in the side to represent arms and used stones to make classic buttons down the front of the snow man. She fixed the boys knitted cap to make sure it protected his ears from the cold and then stretched her arms over her head. "You are my contest submission. When they come by to grade you, do me a favor and smile."

    With a cold gaze and empty gaze he would come to build.
    With even colder hands, he would leave after his frolicking fun.
    His snowman was shaped like a rabbit he knew.
    Just as cold and beautiful with shades of white as his flesh.
    Just as lonely and abandoned in the frigid darkness as he lived.

    Snow man building contest! (Complete) Empty Snowman Building!

    Post by Yamanaka Seijun on Sat Jul 18, 2020 4:04 pm

    Seijun's body shivered and trembled as she and her father walked down the trail. The air here was much colder than she was used to, and the darkened skies occasionally rumbled in low complaint. Her father walked a few paces ahead of her walking on a much longer stride than she was used to, but she struggled to keep up in order to not get left behind. This had to have been the first time that she traveled so far from home. She was confused why her father would have offered to take her along at all. After all, it was just a diplomatic mission to one of the neutral territories that laid to the east. A small farming community that might have been able to spar some produce in exchange for the Sun Village offering new tools to make their work easier.

    Normally he would just bid her and her mother farewell and set out on his own, so maybe he'd be able to skirt around any bandits attempting to charge their tolls. Her father casts a look over his shoulder, and after a single glance at Seijun's perplexed expression, he chuckles and looks to the road ahead again. "Still haven't figured out why I asked you to come yet?" She blinked in surprise but twitches her head in a nod. She wasn't sure if her father was just well-versed in the Clan's ways, but sometimes it felt like she could keep nothing hidden from him even if she tried. Taking her silence as an answer he raises his hand in a gesture to bid her to look off the beaten path. "You've graduated now. As much as your mother likes to remind me, you aren't going to stay our little girl forever. The world is going to show itself to you. To share the wonder of all its beauty, and the horrors of the scars it bears. Someday, you alone are going to walk down this path. Without me beside of you. For now though we are here, and I wish to cherish these moments while we can."

    Seijun listened to her father speak watching the path underfoot. His words were encouraging but she could feel the somber weight in her father's tone. Was this really about her growing up, or was he trying to prepare her for the day something would happen to him? The thought of it made Seijun's heart run cold, colder than the chilled air that she was treading through. She ran ahead and wrapped her arms around her father's waist, squeezing tightly as she hugged him from behind. Her father wobbles when he has to come to that sudden stop, but he simple smiles and places his hand lightly atop her head. "I love you very much...don't fret." After offering words of comfort, he lifts his head to look up towards the sky, "Look, Ebi." He asks, and though reluctant, Seijun lifts her head to look at the sky overhead. Slow at first, the small orbs of snow begin to drift down to the earth gradually picking up in numbers and speed.

    Her eyes grow wide at the sight in bewildered wonder. It was the first time she had seen the snow fall before. It was often much too warm to gather at their home, but it was much different than anything she had experienced before. It was like a slow falling rain, but when the snowflakes landed on her they did not soak the same way; like the lightest kiss from icy lips. "It might be best to make a camp to wait out the storm..." Her father thinks aloud, letting his hand drift down to rest on Seijun's shoulder so that he may guide the way to a safe place where they could seek shelter. Hours pass, and so too does the storm eventually, leaving the trees and grass blanketed in pure white. Seijun steps out of their tent letting her feet crunch in the snow. It was pristine, with nothing but the smallest of tracks from the forest life to break its fragile surface.

    Her father steps out shortly after her, and tilts his head down to ask, "Before we go...would you like to see what my grandfather taught me?" Seijun nods her head and together, she and her father worked rolling and packing the snow to build it up. Her father picks Seijun up who holds the last ball of snow in her head, allowing her the honor of placing the snowman's head in place. There, her father finds some spare rocks and sticks to place for the features and they both step back to admire their work. "Have a name for him?" Her father wonders to Seijun. She pauses to think hard on this decision, and eventually picks, "Her name is Dewdrop."

    A snowman?

    The first thought that came to Ami’s mind was how painfully not artistic she was, in every sense of the word. She was never good at drawing, painting, pottery, arts and crafts and the idea of building a snowman terrified her. She could only imagine how her snowman would turn out and shuddered. The cold air blew against her face as she made her way to the back of the Hyuuga compounds. She was going to practice, as though practicing was actually going to help. Many of her clan members were already practicing, building snowmen of different shapes and sizes. Many of them looked so beautiful while others were…not. Ami would nod at some of them and retreat to a corner by herself. She didn’t like to make things in front of people, feeling that people would judge her for her lack of talent.

    Her hands cupped the snow on the ground, her fingers immediately feeling the chill of the substance. She had forgotten to wear gloves, or had preferred not to. It had been years since she had built a snowman, her last memory being when she built one with her sister. She looked at the white substance in her hand and heaved a painful sigh. She had deliberately never built a snowman after her sister died. Now as she felt the wet snow in her hands, all the memories of the happy times they had began to resurface. Shaking her head, she would start to mold the snow into a ball, thinking about the size of her snowman. Ami didn’t like making big sculptures and thought maybe the smaller the snowman, the less ugly it would probably turn out. The Hyuuga decided she was going to make a miniature, one-sixteenth the size of a regular snowman and small enough to be placed in the palm of a person’s hand.

    And it wasn’t an easy task. The smaller something was, the more detail and careful the crafter needed to be. She would make three very small balls of snow, using a long toothpick-like utensil to carve the face. She didn’t expect to win the contest, but she was going to try her best to make the most delicate and intricate looking snowman out there. By now the other members of her clan were wondering what was wrong with her. Her focus on detail was probably her biggest strength and her biggest flaw. She would carve the face and make it as visually beautiful as a miniature would allow, placing the little snowman delicately on a pile of snow. People would have to walk really close to it to even notice its existence, something that Ami didn’t really mind.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    A snowman making contest, something that in a dry and desert place like Nikkousato seemed a little ironic. Kokoro had thought long and hard about her submission. She had never built a snowman before but had seen what they generically looked like. She wanted to win the judges over with a unique submission, something that nobody else would make. For that she had practiced in the snow for hours and for many days prior to actually building it. Now she would sit in the snow, her trench coat taking in the majority of the cold and wetness. She had dark blue mittens on, the same colour as her eyes. She would begin to build her snowman, a man-sized masterpiece. A child-like smile adorned her face as her head filled with an image of what her finishing product would look like.
    The girl was no artist, or sculptor. But she was determined to make the greatest snowman ever. She started with the head. Where as everyone else probably made rounded childish looking snowmen, Kokoro had a different idea. The face would be somewhat pointy, like that of a human face. She would use a tree branch to carve the face, the markings under the eyes telling the tale of who the snowman would represent. It was harder than she thought to build a snowman after a real person, most of her efforts spent on making it look somewhat realistic. It was a delicate process, the head of the snowman taking her far too much time than she had anticipated. Kokoro would try to add in some more snow to make the hair, the ears and whatnot.
    The body was another problem. The girl wished he had a rounded and simple figure, like that of an actual snowman. But he didn't. After several attempts to make a human-like body and failing, she went for the next best option--which was to imitate his attire. And when that didn't work she would make a simple snowman body, his muscular figure replaced by a ball of snow. Kokoro actually laughed out loud as she assembled her very odd looking snowman. It wasn't about it looking pretty after all. She secretly gave it a name, to which she kept to herself like a plague. Nobody would and should know, she smiled to herself.
    And then seeing that she had some extra time she would try her hand at another facial replica, realizing her talent only lay in replicating the face and nothing else. She carved carefully again, this time placing the emphasis on the snow that would represent the hair. It was like an abstract painting of sorts, where anyone looking at her masterpieces would hardly be able to tell her thought processes. Such was the true talents of an artist, she was sure. But if anyone dared ask she would only reply that her inspiration came from family, and that the names she gave to her two snowmen were Sojiro and Genkumaru. Kokoro would only hope they never see her entry, unavble to imagine just how angry or embarrassed they would feel at the prospect.
    I have no idea what drove me to do this? Maybe it was because I missed the snow or maybe it was because the boredom was so incredibly bad that I just needed something to do. Whatever the reason I now find myself out here in the middle of the jungle, knee deep in a pool of mud. Do not get me wrong there is nothing awful about playing around in the mud, but why on earth did I decide to build a snow man? Better yet a mud man. Here I am though, knee deep in a pool of mud with a round creation made entirely out of mud and dirt sitting before me. Placing my hands on my hips I take one final look at the little guy, his rocky eyes slowly sliding down his face. If he were alive, I would have kissed him right on his sloppy lips. I must admit, for a muddy mess of a “snow man” he is better looking that most moon shinobi I have met. Now I can only hope no one finds him and tries to marry him.
    Slush slush everywhere! how many snow mans can i build before the deadly fight to decide who will be a god. Shinigai didn't like the snow or the slush he was a man that wore little to nothing and liked it that way. So the people could see his sexy body and the abs that came with it but the young man would do this for fun. As he would create something from his mind with horns and sharp teeth with eyes that filled its face and a pitch fork in his hands. This would be his creation. and it would be his creation alone.
    Post by Letony on Thu Jul 30, 2020 9:56 pm
    Out in the Frostlands life was rather daunting, and the childish Letony would be outside of the cabin he called home. Far away from the ugly clutches of his abuser within the home. There was an ample supply of snow, and the boy decided he would have some fun building a snow man, rather than do any serious training. He stood outside the cabin, reaching toward the ground, and clasping a great deal of snow into a small ball. He simply dropped the ball, and started rolling it; accumulating more snow around it as it went. So as the ball went, so did Letony pack, and supply it with additional layers. He had his base. Letony elected to try a different method this time, and gained a knife to slice a block of snow from the great deal of snow on the ground. He cut just enough to form a solid mid-section, before attaching it to the ball of a base, which is at least three feet in diameter. So, his snow man appeared as a robot. He rolled another, inferior ball of snow for the head. He used the knife to etch a smile into snow man, and would end his fit of creativity by destroying it.
    Keiji would saunter up to the snowman building area of the moon village, and begin to assemble his snowman, or should he say snowmen! He quickly created a masterpiece of a scene, including several figures to form a mighty battle scene. There were several ninja assembled in a ten meter radius that were doing all sorts of advanced combat maneuvers with ice being used for platforms if needed to showcase aerial techniques with the battling snowmen. There were roughly eleven snowmen made that filled the area to showcase this epic battle. He even made jutsu particle effects to go with the battling snowmen! It was a truly glorious scene benefitting the annals of the ages!
